<div>COMMONALITY AMONGST THE WORLD'S MYSTICS: <br/> <br/>If you study the life of past mystics you'll find they share several things in common: <br/> <br/>First, they all speak of an induction – or of a need to learn/realize a new level of understanding. They all speak of a fundamental shift in consciousness (be it called awakening, realization, divination, or being born again). <br/> <br/>Second they all tell of making a journey into and through a despair process of being “undone” as the precursor to this fundamental shift in consciousness -- be it through experiencing 40 days and nights in the wilderness, starving under the boddhi tree, facing the dark night of the soul, or the hero’s journey. There is a Journey of metamorphosis that all mystics have undergone in some way. <br/> <br/>Third, it is an inner journey that must be taken up and navigated alone. This is a hallmark of the mystic’s realization: The reason the journey must be alone is because that which must be faced, seen, and surrendered in order that something new can emerge, is only possible through sustaining the fear and despair process of being alone and meeting the ultimate and fundamental fear of “non-being” and annihilation. <br/> <br/>Fourth, they all seem to realize the frustration of being misunderstood by those who have not yet been through the awakening journey -- “those who have ears to hear, let him hear.” A great deal of the mystical writings are devoted almost exclusively to the fact that fundamental spiritual truth cannot be understood by the intellect nor correctly put into words. Forever, the great spiritual teachers have tried through the insufficiency of words to point toward that which can ever and only be experienced and known on a level that is before and beyond the mind. This is something unfathomable to those who have not yet had this breakthrough revelation - and particularly so in our contemporary culture that has become so overly reliant and blinded by the limiting paradigm of the scientific method that forever reduces our understanding of intelligence to that which is sensory, measurable and linear in nature. That explains it in its entirety, and is in my opinion the best, most grounded and in integrity description I've found of a most divine being reporting on the after-death state and the different levels of reality. <br/> <br/> <br/>The other is the re-incarnate knowledge of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which can be integrated into this knowledge. Enlightenment is understanding that your purpose is to give and receive unending fulfillment. It can only be said that you cast away your oneness (this is where you give and this is where the illusion begins). Because this is just an illusion, being in this imperfect state cannot last forever. This may seem very egotistical, but actually it becomes clear that it’s just the opposite as you come to understand the next statement. <br/> <br/>You are alone. This does not mean that you loose your family, friends and loved ones that gave you so much comfort throughout your life; it just means that they were never separate from you to begin with. They are within you. <br/> <br/>Your mind creates the world around you. <br/> <br/>When you die you do not dissolve back into the world around you but instead the world dissolves back into your mind. <br/> <br/>When you come into this world you have departed from reality into a world of illusion. You have departed from the real and eternal into the unreal and temporary. This is a paradox because you never really left in the first place. There is no reason for this journey because by its very nature something that is untrue is also unreasonable and so it is that there can be no answer to the question why. It is simply natural that you are not perfect in this world and that you grow old and die. These are the characteristics of that which is not true. <br/> <br/>Your higher self (God) is no more concerned about this process than you are concerned about falling asleep at night or expelling a breath. I have posted this in several other places like casting out a net to see what kinds of different perspectives I could get from people of different interests. It is just a starting point. My goal was to take my thoughts about a very broad and complex topic and try to distill them down to as few words as possible. The intention is that as the reader reads it they are speaking the words to themselves and considering the correctness or incorrectness of each statement. I thought it would be interesting to try to write something in such a way that as I am speaking to another I am also speaking to myself. It’s like standing between two mirrors and seeing reflections of yourself facing away from you stretching off into infinity and leaning forward to whisper a message into your own ear. <br/> <br/>My thought is that God is alone. If you think of God as simply that creative force that creates things, and if you think of the space in which these things are created as a mind, then what would you call these things that have been created? I think that you would call them imaginary.
